International Urban Project Award (IUPA)

Architecture has to prove that it is strong, then and now. Technology advance, climate change, digitalisation and new developments in demographic change, a phase for workplace and mobility environments, all these reasons have become the driving forces behind the transformation of planning and design. Now, the necessary responses to the current epidemic crisis should now be included in this list. It therefore calls for both resilience and flexible solutions in architecture and urban planning.

However, the buildings around our neighborhoods are not piles of clay that can be reshaped in a short time to meet our needs. Because of this, we can only conclude that we need strong architectural and urban development that is not only flexible and responsive, but also resilient and durable.

The International Urban Project Award (IUPA), organized by Bauwelt magazine in Berlin and World Architecture Magazine in Beijing, co-organised by Messe München GmbH and MMU BAU Fenestration Co., Ltd., and directed by  the Architectural Society of China (ASC), aims to recognise outstanding new work of the year that has changed our urban lives around the world. The award draws greater attention to the social and cultural forces that empower architecture and urban development, aiming to improve the public space for urban living and ultimately achieving liveable cities for humanity.
