Entering into the 21st century, climate changes and COVID-19 have brought tremendous changes to people's living habits. In the future, we believe our living and working spaces will also be constantly adjusted to adapt to these changes.

That’s why BCC 2023 will be themed as 21st Century Architecture and Urban Planning to discuss 5 topics including urban design and public life, high-quality architecture, people-oriented architectural design, architecture and urban life: resilience and sustainability, smart public buildings by inviting the leaders of global design firms, as well as acknowledged architects and scholars such as Professor Song Yehao from Tsinghua University, Professor Li Xiangning and Professor Zhang Ming from Tongji University, Lu Yichen from Studio Link-Arc, Zhang Yue from AS+P, Chris Hardie from Perkins & Will, Simon Chan from B+H, Hasan A. Syed from Gensler, Bai Rui from AECOM, Markus Lauber from KSP, Yu Hongze from Drees & Sommer , etc.

Architecture Salon - Academic Exchange Week of the ASC Annual Conference

1234

As one of the sub-conference of the Academic Exchange Week of the ASC, Architecture Salon of CADE 2023 has launched three major trend sessions this year to discuss the current social and cultural policy trends.

Session A: Design-driven Urban Renewal

Urban development is often implemented by three main parties - government, developers and architects. Together, the three parties play a decisive role in the growth of the city. As an urban designer, he/she must be more responsible for the city and for the people living in it. The three parties can coexist   to complete the research and realize urban projects of an era. The integrity of the city requires coexistence and symbiosis among various projects. The three parties should cater each piece of land in a professional way, so that the building can better contribute to the urban outlook and promote the comprehensive development of the city's economy and culture. Every outstanding project and urban environment depends not only on the successful design, but also the result of the joint efforts of architects, developers and the government.

This session will focus on the latest urban design and architectural design achievements, fully showcase the concepts and projects of urban design, architectural design, landscape design, interior design and other professional fields. This session will provide architects with an exchange and mutual learning opportunity. The government and developers will be introduced to discussing the whole process and to learn the birth of an excellent project with details.

Session B: Tech-empowered Low Carbon Future

Whether it is a national construction policy or a development concept, the green and low-carbon topic is always the main theme of this era. To achieve the goal of carbon neutrality in 2060, the architecture and design industry play a crucial role for its long way to go. The design of green buildings requires the extensive participation of architects to systematically integrate various professions and projects.

Incorporating low-carbon strategies and technologies into the entire process of creation also requires the  professional and scientific standard tools and methods, for example, improving material using efficiency, promoting the use of low-carbon materials, using high-efficiency thermal insulation building envelopes, using low energy lighting equipment and electrical appliances, and etc.

This session will focus on the industry technological innovations, demonstration projects and policies to explore the development trend and help the industry realize its independent contribution to the dual-carbon (carbon neutrality and peak) goal. It will also inspire the thinking on industry transformation and upgrading based on the 14th Five-Year Plan.

Session C: Material Revolution with Quality Blend

Building materials are the material basis of building production activities. To a large extent, the development of material technology directly affects the spatial structure and artistic effects of buildings. As materials are the carrier of architectural design performance, every design will ultimately be implemented on the use of materials. With the development of science and technology, the use of building materials has jumped out of traditional materials such as wood, stone, brick, and soil that have been used for thousands of years. After that, reinforced and cement concrete structures have been widely used. Nowadays, composite materials such as fiber and synthetic resin have been starting to speak for architects in the real-world. What comes next is the strong development of artificial intelligence which has ushered the world in the era of smart materials. With the influence of the digital age, increasing new building materials have been developed to drive the new development of architectural design.

This session will focus on integrating architects and architectural concepts and material performance and innovation. How do architects apply innovative materials to achieve an excellent project? Attendees will have a profound understanding of characteristics of various innovative materials for inspiring the new designs.
