Making the XXL City: Urban Planning Realities and Visions

We live in an urban age. While urbanization presents multiple cultural and economic opportunities, infrastructure and services often can’t keep up with rapid densification. Developing new approaches to urban design as well as ways of providing essential frameworks is needed to foster communities and quality of life in megacities. This session explores innovation potentials of spatial planning bringing significant positive change to urban landscapes such as: healthy public spaces, green mobility, leisure facilities, energy-efficient urban structures, and the adaptation of cities to climate change.

Afternoon session topic

Crossing Boundaries: Towards a Sustainable Architecture

Our planet is warming up ever faster, resources are limited. To meet with climate action demands and save resources, architecture offices and city administrations, industry and real estate business must approach construction in a more durable and sustainable way. How can buildings be designed to limit humanity's impact on the environment? Which new knowledge and which collaborations are needed for the transition to a circular economy? The session will investigate energy efficiency solutions, the use of local and recycled materials as well as the new architectural designs developing as a result of these.
