Topic | ‘Re-use of Chinese Heritage’
In addition to the demolition of entire city quarters, China is paying more and more attention to the preservation of existing historically valuable buildings. Empty buildings are reused, converted and thus brought back to life. In the course of this process, many obstacles and challenges can arise. We will present projects that have succeeded in overcoming these hurdles and giving the building a new atmosphere, preparing it for the next century without neglecting its history.

Topic | ‘Human Scale Architecture’
In contrast to the megaprojects of recent years in China, for some time now there has been an increasing trend towards more human-scale architecture and smaller scales. Planners are reacting more and more to the surrounding urban fabric. In particular, the young generation of architects, internationally networked, is becoming more and more involved in this field. The theme of “Human Scale Architecture” also contributes to the theme of our morning session - it is often closely linked to reuse projects. We will focus on practical examples from China, which contribute a special added value to their environment, the social structure and Chinese architecture.

We’re looking at the impact of digitalization to the design process. Do the new technologies push the border of the result of the design of architecture? And we’re looking at the challenges in the production process as well. Does BIM provide a faster, better and cheaper process? What is the more in the way of thinking BIM as an holistic approach. We want to figure out the needs of the digital design, production and construction process. The lectures will be concerned with CAD, 3D, VR, BIM, construction and design systems.
