BCC 2019 Topics

Tuesday, 5th Nov / afternoon
Topic | ‘Future of Cities - National and International Planners‘

is all about developing urban masterplans and structures that are suitable for current and future needs. Thereby, multiscale urban planning projects will be presented and examples will be shown on how to connect traditional and modern urban structures in an authentic and respectful way. In addition, we will show outstanding architectural projects that make working and living in the future easier and more revolutionary. All our international speakers have experience in building in China.

Wednesday, 6th Nov / morning
Topic | ‘Re-use of Chinese Heritage’

In addition to the demolition of entire city quarters, China is paying more and more attention to the preservation of existing historically valuable buildings. Empty buildings are reused, converted and thus brought back to life. In the course of this process, many obstacles and challenges can arise. We will present projects that have succeeded in overcoming these hurdles and giving the building a new atmosphere, preparing it for the next century without neglecting its history.

Wednesday, 6th Nov / afternoon
Topic | ‘Human Scale Architecture’

In contrast to the megaprojects of recent years in China, for some time now there has been an increasing trend towards more human-scale architecture and smaller scales. Planners are reacting more and more to the surrounding urban fabric. In particular, the young generation of architects, internationally networked, is becoming more and more involved in this field. The theme of “Human Scale Architecture” also contributes to the theme of our morning session - it is often closely linked to reuse projects. We will focus on practical examples from China, which contribute a special added value to their environment, the social structure and Chinese architecture.

Thursday, 7th Nov / morning
Topic | ‘Smart Solutions for Architecture and Urban Design’

is all about showing examples of architecture projects [in China] that are suitable for current and future needs. Big and successful architecture offices that are located or have subsidiaries in China and also work internationally will share with us their digital Praxis and current and upcoming work. The lectures will be concerned with smart buildings, lighting, building automation, vertical and horizontal transport (lifts, escalators), access and safety technology, energy technology and much more besides.

Thursday, 7th Nov / afternoon
Topic | ‘Digital Design for Visionary Architecture’

We’re looking at the impact of digitalization to the design process. Do the new technologies push the border of the result of the design of architecture? And we’re looking at the challenges in the production process as well. Does BIM provide a faster, better and cheaper process? What is the more in the way of thinking BIM as an holistic approach. We want to figure out the needs of the digital design, production and construction process. The lectures will be concerned with CAD, 3D, VR, BIM, construction and design systems.
